Zeus Custom Error Pages

Zeus Traffic Manager (now, Stingray Traffic Manager) is an excellent product that I’ve found to be very useful, but the default “Service Unavailable” page is kind of ugly. Unfortunately, the documentation on how to put a more attractive error page up on your Zeus load balancer isn’t very clear, and I banged my head against it for a long time before I finally figured it out. It’s totally one of those “hiding in plain sight” things.

It turns out that it’s really easy once you know how to do it. This has been tested with both Zeus Traffic Manager 7.3r1 and Stingray Traffic Manager 9.0r3.

  1. Go to “Catalogs”, “Extra Files”, “Miscellaneous Files”.
  2. Upload the error page (or pages) you want in the “Upload File” form.
  3. Go to Virtual Servers.
  4. For each virtual server you want to have use a custom error page, go to that server and click on “Connection Management”. There, click on “Connection Error Settings”. Set error_file: to the error page you want to use, and click update.

That’s it. For some reason I couldn’t find a whole lot in the docs or on the Internet that was real clear about setting this, but setting those custom error pages is actually really easy.
