Not much to say here (which is part of the reason I’m only writing this up now). There was an unexpected gap in the clouds the night of the 8th, so I decided to run out back briefly and try to knock out some of the Messier objects visible in the vague neighborhood of Sirius. I did try for Messier 1 as well (aka the Crab Nebula), but I don’t think I was able to get it. I’ll try a better night though, but I have a feeling it might not happen until next winter.
After failing with the Crab Nebula, I went and found Messier 46, 47, and 50. These are just some open clusters; attractive enough, but for the most part I don’t find open clusters as interesting as some of the other types of objects.
